John McLinden

DIRECTOR

Dr. McLinden is a licensed physical therapist that has been treating patients in Rhode Island for close to 30 years. He earned his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island in 1993, and a PhD in Education in 2018. He has also completed PhD coursework in Physical Therapy at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL.

Dr. McLinden has been a core faculty member at the University of Rhode Island’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program since 1996, where he teaches musculoskeletal therapeutics, physical agents, management health policy and ethical-legal issues in healthcare. He is also a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist.

His research interests include injured worker rehabilitation, biofeedback for low back pain and issues in clinical education. He is also an adjunct faculty member at New York University. In addition to teaching, clinical work and research, John has consulted with large and small companies looking to improve worker safety and productivity.

He has served as mentor and advisor to physical therapists for twenty five years, is an invited international speaker and published author. John’s practice emphasizes contemporary evidence-based techniques; he has attended numerous continuing education courses in manual therapy, trigger point dry-needling and pain sciences.

Michael Jacobs

PT, DPT, CCCE
Michael Jacobs PT, DPT, CCCE is a 2012 graduate of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Rhode Island, receiving faculty recognition for academic excellence and published contributions in physical therapy research. He is experienced in providing quality treatment solutions for a wide range of orthopedic, neurologic, pre/post operative, as well as chronic and degenerative conditions. He is certified in vestibular rehabilitation, providing diagnostic and rehabilitative strategies for a variety of equilibrium and balance disorders.

His experience in fall risk assessment and management allows Physical Therapy Professionals, Inc. to offer individualized programs aimed at improving safe mobility and function for a variety of at-risk individuals. He is certified in the use of high-amplitude therapeutic exercise and sensory recalibration techniques to improve motor outcomes in individuals with Parkinson disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.

He joined the staff at Physical Therapy Professionals, Inc. with a commitment to the facility mission of offering manual and therapeutic interventions consistent with current best evidence and recent advances in pain management science.

He has received post graduate training in neurologic dry needling techniques. He has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and RI APTA since 2009, and serves as the coordinator of clinical education for Physical Therapy Professionals, Inc.
